After successfully showing their talent last year by winning the softball National Championship at Airlangga University, the Yogyakarta State University women's softball team again triumphed as the first winner of the UGM Cup 2018 national softball championship. , said Pardani Nurlaili, chairman of the UNY Women's Softball UKM. Furthermore, the PJKR Study Program student expressed her gratitude and thanks to Allah SWT, all leaders, and academicians of UNY who have provided support for the softball team in particular. This year's UGM CUP was the first time it was held for men and women, thanks to their hard work, the solid teamwork of UNY's women's softball team was able to make history at UGM CUP 2018.

The journey to becoming the champion of the UNY Women's Softball team, most of whom are students of the UNY Faculty of Sports Science, was passed by defeating Brawijaya University with 2 home visits with a score of (13-0, 9-8) and against UGM with a narrow win and one loss. After successfully going through the struggle in the elimination round, the UNY team again met the UGM softball team in the final and won with a final score of 10-5 for the UNY team's victory.

The 2-year championship which is routinely held by the UGM Softball-Baseball UKM is attended by softball teams from various universities such as the Islamic University of Bandung, Islamic University of Indonesia, Diponegoro University, Airlangga University, and Brawijaya University who will compete for the best position at the national level. This championship is also an event for friendship and introductions between UKM Softball–Baseball universities throughout Indonesia said one of the committee members.
